The Nvidia Project Shield, now called The Nvidia Shield, is a gaming device with a hybrid controller and a multi-touch screen. It can be integrated with Android and Google play. Game enthusiasts all over the world are waiting for the launch of this much talked about device that is believed to give a strong competition to widely established Sony and Nintendo gaming devices.

The early Pre-orders for Nvidia Shield are currently open for the people who had signed up to Nvidia’s notification list, and pre-orders would be open for rest of the customeers from May 20th. The shipments to the US and Canadian customers will be released in early June.

Specifications of The Device

This gaming device is powered by Nividia’s new Tegra 4 mobile processor, and it can work with Android Jelly Bean, PCs with Nvidia’s graphic card, and TegraZone gaming store.

It has a 5 inch 720p touch screen that is useful in many games like GTA, Vice City etc. The multi-touch screen can be adjusted to many convenient angles as per one’s requirement.

It has a hybrid controller with a d-pad, two symmetrical analog sticks, triggers, bumpers and a,b,x and y buttons. Though the device seems a little bulkier than PS Vita, but as far as comfort in handling the device is concerned, it is as good as any other gaming device. Besides the analog sticks, the gamepad seems to be inspired by Xbox 360.

One of the most talked about features of this device is that it can easily stream graphically intense games through Steam on devices with compatible graphic cards.

It also has an impressive Battery Life. The Battery lasts for 4 to 5 hours for all the Tegra-Optimized games, and for other Android games it can last up to 10 hours. The battery life can exceed 20 hours if one is streaming PC games, since the PC’s graphic card already converts and relays the videos and compresses them for Nvidia Shield. One can expect a constant framerate and good visuals for most of the games.

How successful it will be?

Nvidia Shield has stirred a lot of expectations among the gamers. Its ability to play high-powered android and PC games, its multi-touch and adjustable screen, and its ability to integrate with a number of platforms are eliciting a lot of attention. Now, its success depends upon how well it will stand up to the expectations of the gamers, and how strongly it will stand against other well established and dominant gaming console giants that have made a strong foothold in the industry with their experience and their constant evolution with the market.

Nvidia Shield vs. Other Console Giants

Nvidia Shield is all set to go up against the likes of PS Vita and Nintento 3D. Although, shape wise, the device is bulkier and less portable than its immediate competitors, but it is believed to bring a drastic change in the way gamers play. As far as dethroning other console giants is concerned, we will know once the device has properly rolled out in the market and the gamers get a chance to compare it with their current favorites.

As with any form of software that uses the internet, remote desktop protocols can have security issues. This is rare and usually caused by users not having added the right layers of security to meet their specific needs. RDP solutions, like many forms, will come with a default setting. It is this setting that can leave you at risk of security breaches, in just the same way as not protecting your emails for example. So the main thing that you need to do is add the encrypted layers of protection to your RDP connection.

The security risks are low however and if you have the right protection, including general computer security, you will be unlikely to experience anything untoward. Here are the main forms of security issues that can happen when using a remote desktop protocol.

Man in the Middle Attack

A man in the middle attack is exactly what the name suggests, it is someone in the middle of the conversation that can gain information through your computer movements. Much like a Trojan Horse virus, this person will intercept what you are doing from one device onto the next and then have access to the information you are looking at. This could be passwords, data information or financial records and so you must make sure that you have the right level of security to make sure this doesn’t happen.

Like many online hacking attacks, making sure you take measures like regularly changing passwords, encrypting data and regularly scanning your devices for issues are the best form of defense and also protection if an attack happens.

Pass the Hash Attack

Although this form of attack is unlikely, it can happen especially if you don’t keep your computer passwords and usernames secure. A Pass the Hash attack is known as a brute force hacking attack, where the person will use brute force through the use of your servers to grasp your passwords and usernames so that they can obtain remote access to your computer.

There is no singular protection against this form of hacking, but there are many small things you can do to protect yourself. It is also worth noting that this attack doesn’t just happen through the use of RDP’s, but can happen through any internet software. Some of the main things to initiate is to only allow full access to limited people within your company, not because you don’t trust them, but to limit the amount of full access that can lead to attacks. Other than this, you need to maintain your firewalls, use password systems that are regularly changed and full disk encryption.

At the end of the day, RDP software is just the same as any software that works through the use of the internet. It is open to security breaches, just the same as everything else and by not taking the right measures to protect your data then you are leaving your own and your company’s data open to attack. Protect yourself by making sure all antivirus, firewall protection and passwords are changed regularly, kept up to date and maintained in order to be happy in the knowledge that you are protected.

It’s true. There really is so much great technology out there that can help transform your house into a great home. Whether you’re looking for the newest in home cinema entertainment or a new computer to do your work, surf the net and let your children stream movies on, there’s just so much to choose from – and the best part about it is that so much of it is extremely affordable.

If you’re thinking about investing in some great new electronics for your bedroom, front room or study, click here for a few of the best options and discover just why they’re great.

Televisions

With the huge range of televisions available now, there’s something to suit everyone’s budget. Able to deliver staggering picture quality for great prices, there are few drawbacks to investing in a new TV.

For great durability and a brilliant price, go for a LCD model. Able to stand strong through long hours of constant use and consistently deliver, they are also available in arrange of sizes. If you want to buy a TV that really delivers an incredible viewer experience, then go 3D. A 3D model will not only let you watch movies exactly how they were intended on the big screen but will allow you to fully immerse and escape into great wildlife documentaries and televisions shows and experience them as you never had before.

Laptops

If you’re looking to buy a laptop, the timing couldn’t be better. With extremely high spec models available at great prices it’s no wonder that more and more people are turning to laptops over desktop computers. With high-speed processors and large RAM capabilities coming as standard they are now able to handle nearly anything you throw at them.

Whether it’s editing video, pictures, online gaming or just surfing the web, a laptop is a great option if you want to save space in your house. Of course, also come with the benefit of not being tied to one particular place meaning that you can simply put them in a bag and take them with you wherever you are going – be it to work, away for the weekend, or on the other side of the world on holiday.

Blu Ray Players

Blu ray movies and television shows are slowly becoming the consumer standard for quality and excellence. Soon, all movies will come in blu ray as standard quality gets gently overtaken. With a blu ray player you can enjoy your programmes in superior quality time and time again. The best thing about a blu ray player is that they are very reasonably priced, meaning that there’s nothing which should stand in your way from enjoying the absolute best quality playback of your favourite movies and shows.

There are so many handsets in the market right now, choosing the right one for you can be a bit of a pain. The following is a bit of a insight into the different types of phones in the market right now.

Standard handsets

There are many people who think a phone should just be used to make phone calls. If this is you a basic handset is the phone for you. The very most these phones tend to offer the user is:

Making phone calls

Sending text messages

Alarm

Clock

These phones tend to be the cheapest in the market place and tend to be the sort that “does what it says on the tin” type phones.

iPhone

The iPhone is one of the most popular phones in the market right now. Every new design Apple brings out ensures that it remains one of the trendiest phones around but this does come at a cost, the iPhone is on of the most expensive around. The design and interface is very easy and simple to use, and continues to be the pace setter in the phone industry. One of the biggest attractions is being able to sync your iTunes account onto the iPhone.

Android

Android have made some massive leaps to catch up with the iPhone over the last 2 years. There are many customers who feel android has now surpassed the iPhone for usability. There are a number of similarities with the iPhone interface in phones such as the Samsung Galaxy.

The advantage of using an android phone is that you can sync them up with any Google accounts; also they play mp3s so if you do not want to convert your music to the largeky unusable mp4 format than android phones is the way for you.

Windows phones

Everyone knows Microsoft have been the leaders within the computer industry for a very long period of time, yet this can not be said about them within the mobile phone industry. Many of Microsoft’s previous phones have not been quite there for many people. Their operating systems have missed the mark and so the uptake has not been great. The previous wrongs seem to have been addressed with their latest release, windows 8.

Microsoft has come up with an interface that can essentially cross formats, so from desktop, laptop and mobile. All your Microsoft devices from your laptop to Xbox can be linked together which can not only be useful but fun as well.

Blackberry

Blackberry has been the pick for professionals and business men alike. Blackberry targets the business professionals, with its QWERTY keyboard, email system and messaging functions Blackberry is the phone for those who need the functions of an office while on the go.

This is a debate which is beginning to enter into the public sphere on consumer appliances. Are they really too clever for their own good? Do we need appliances that are less aesthetically pleasing and more fundamentally functional?

Well, the answer isn’t an easy one, as for many people (and a number of products) the twin merits of form and function do tend to go hand in hand. This is especially true in most modern households where budgets are limited. Below are a few things to consider when pondering this particular debate.

Most people just want something to do one thing

Whilst many people do tend to get confused over the functionality of new electrical appliances, the same argument does seem to emerge: “but I only need it for one thing!” Whilst this may be true, there is no real harm in having an appliance that can perform several functions at once. True it may lead to a little confusion when learning how to operate your chosen appliance, but this confusion is often short-lived and the end result can be an extremely beneficial one. Many new products are available from the Co-operative Electrical that require no steep learning curve and are ready to go as soon as they are plugged in.

Form usually follows function

In the modern day we place a high value on the aesthetics of modern appliances. This is partly due to our current fascination with iCulture and the sleek, flowing lines of appliances and electronics which now flood the market in an attempt to get noticed. However, a great deal of the time, their form is usually a factor with follows function, and not the other way around.

In order to gain a foothold in any market, appliances must be able to hold their ground against competitors in more ways than one. Simply having something that looks nice does not cut it anymore. Many appliances offer increased functionality alongside high aesthetic value as a way of gaining new customers.

Technology is increasing at a rate of knots

Technology is like a snowball. Once the initial breakthrough is developed for commercial use, many companies slip on board to imitate the new discovery, resulting in what is known as a benchmark technology. But more than that, to further stand out in a highly competitive market, companies then seek to tweak and re-engineer products to deliver an even better service. The rate at which technology develops subsequently becomes ever more amplified.

But don’t worry. If looking through an electrical showroom seems to make your head spin at all the incredible new products available on the market today, you can rest easily. Whatever new appliance you’re seeking for your home, whether it’s smart, streamlined, economical or trusted and robust, you can get it at the Co-operative.

Looking for a smart device that you can use in a variety of ways such as a camera, touchpad, and display right in front of your very eyes? That’s exactly what Google Glass is all about – a microphone, battery, display and camera built into a remarkable spectacle frames, so you can perform a multitude of tasks on the fly. What’s more, this brilliant innovation offers a convenient way to free data from your desktop and mobile devices such as your tablets and phones – all in one nifty and handy item.

Overview of the Google Glass

The principle used in the invention of the Google Glass is quite similar to the technology we know from sci-fi flicks, which surprisingly has turned into reality.
This unique “heads-up” form of display places data within your field of vision. The display technology in the Google Glass put data to your vision through a special prism screen located at the upper right portion of the specs. This design allows you to maximize display features without obstructing your clear view of the images. In fact, Google claims that the display is equivalent to the view you can get from a 25-inch High-Def screen about 8 feet away.

There are evident benefits in overlaying data right into your vision, and most of these are offered by the Google Glass. For instance, it is hassle-free to view real time transcriptions or translations of words being said. This device also enables you to scroll through, search for files and reply to all messages instantly.

What You Can Expect

This futuristic device provides an array of potentials that make it a must-have for anyone. Aside from giving you a chance to view films and photos conveniently, the Google Glass is also the best software to use for video conferences, and you can show people what you are exactly looking at. Furthermore, you can check for directions instantly by using Google Maps, despite the fact the GPS is not included in the spec list.

If you need to know more about directions during your travels, you can simply use the MyGlass app, which pairs the headset with your Android phone. Aside from sharing GPS files and data, you can receive messages instantly, view these on the display and reply quickly using the mic or voice-to-text options by Google.

Fascinating Specs of the Google Glass

Another great feature about the Glass is the built-in 5MP camera that can record videos at 720p. Amazingly, the battery life is good for a day, although this only applies with the typical use of the device excluding hours of taking videos.

Other impressive features include the following:

Built-in 16GB flash memory with available 12GB for user storage

Easy to sync the device to your Google Drive account

Built-in WiFi and Bluetooth

Adjustable and replacement nosepads for the frame

Lightweight and robust components

Touchpad included along one arm

Charger and micro USB cable included

Hangout and Google+ notifications (allows you to comment directly to your posts instantly)

Bottom Line

With all these outstanding features, more and more people are eager to check out what exactly the Google Glass can and cannot do.

As for techie individuals out there, this device is indeed a futuristic device that is worth adding to your collection of gadgets.

Viber is a popular mobile application that has more than 200 million subscribers. This application lets you call and chat with other Viber subscribers for free and now you can get all these feature of this great application on your desktop also. That means now you can communicate with other Viber users using your computer also that was not possible earlier.

Viber launched this desktop application on 7th may 2013 and after launch of this application we can say Viber is a true competitor for Skype and in some cases it can even beat Skype.

With this desktop version of Viber you can do almost everything that you could do with its mobile version. Though it is a desktop application it is different from Skype because Skype moved from desktop application to mobile while Viber moved from mobile application to desktop that’s why on Viber you get much more mobile experience compare to any other similar software or application.

With this desktop version Viber became a completely platform independent application also that means now you can use it on your mobile, on your computer(MAC/PC) or on your tablet and you can use almost every function on all the devices.

With this launch Viber also announced its updated version for iOS and Android and now Viber 3.0 is available for all users. With this new updated application user can send video also in messages that was not possible in earlier version of Viber. With new version updates it also added a feature of last online status and push notification that will make it even more useful for users.

The greatest thing about Viber is, it did a genius and smart cross platform integration that will make your life easier. For example if someone message you on your Viber and you are logged in on your phone and computer both than this message will land at both the devices and it will beep at both places but next beep will be as per your reply. If you reply from your mobile it will not beep on your PC for all new messages and it will deliver new messages on your mobile only.

With this desktop application you will be able to send text messages, stickers, photos, emoticons to all their friends along with voice calls. You will be able to make desktop to desktop video calls also using this application and if you want to transfer the call from desktop to mobile or mobile to desktop you can do it easily with just one click. The only requirement for this call transfer is you need to register on your desktop and mobile with same number.

Presently video call using Viber is possible only from desktop to desktop application and it do not have group video conferencing feature also. These are few feature that Skype and Google plus offer and Viber lacks, but Viber promised it will add those feature also very soon in its future release.

So with updated feature of Viber version 3.0 for mobile application and its desktop launch we can say Viber is going to be a best alternative of Skype and WhatsApp and people will be able to get feature of two services in one application.

Days having to conduct a garage sale to get rid of your old stuff, both working and useless are gone. With the advent of the internet, almost everything can be done online. Not just selling stuff, but buying them, playing games, watching movies, talking to people – you name it, and it can be done online. The internet has made the world a global village, where people can connect from one part of the earth to the other in a matter of seconds, and interact in real time. Thus it comes as no surprise that there are so many websites on the internet that let you sell your old stuff online, so that you don’t have to have a physical place that requires advertisement that you are selling something.

With the virtual world, everything you do happens on the internet – as simple as that. However, there are many advantages that come with using these websites to sell your phone online – some of which we will describe in the following lines.

One of the best advantages you get is the size of the audience. When you post an ad for your phone in one of the leading websites, the first thing you will be amazed by is the number of people who will see your advertisement. Now you might think, ‘how much do I need to shell out just to sell my phone?’ Well, most of these websites offer free ad posting, so you don’t have to shell out a cent to let the world know that you intend to sell your phone. You put up the details of the phone, along with a few pictures, and just sit back and watch the emails come.

You could choose to be contacted via phone, too, but putting your phone number just like that out on the internet for everyone to see could invade your privacy, so make sure you give your actual number only to people who are serious in purchasing your phone. This is the first and biggest advantage selling mobiles online gives you.

The next obvious advantage is that you need to be available at all times to receive emails or calls about the phone. People leave you an email that they are interested in your phone once they view your ad, and you can reply at leisure, negotiate the price and sell if interested. There is no pressure on your part to reply to emails immediately, or pick up calls about potential interest in the phone as they come. Even if it’s 3 AM, and you are sound asleep, someone who is interested in your phone will email you, and you can reply after you get up. Thus what this service provides is a round-the-clock marketplace that is always open, no matter what.

And the last, but not the least, advantage of using the internet to sell your mobile phone is that you get to build your reputation. You heard it right, your reputation. What your reputation has to do with anything, you might wonder.

Most of such websites use buyers’ feedback to rank sellers, and if you have a good track record, chances are you will be seen as a trusted seller, and more people will want to buy stuff from you. This way, the next time you have something you want to sell, you will get a lot of customers, people who have simply heard about you on the website and want to see how good a seller you really are.

We guess you are now thinking ‘what a good deal to get when all I want to do is sell my phone!’ Well, this is an advantage that actually comes in very handy in the long run.

Social networks have expanded like fire in the jungle in past ten years. Almost every person knowing anything about internet has an account on any of these social networking sites. Youngsters today talk more about twitter, Facebook posts and LinkedIn messages than what happened in the neighborhood few hours ago.

Some Facts revealing true nature of social media networking

In America, 75% of the teenage population aged between 13 to 17 years has account of some or the other social media network, which was 59% in 2008. Common Sense Media conducted a national survey of teens, which gave some surprising results. It was found that over 90% of them use internet and 41% are actually addicted to their mobiles and other devices. 68% text regularly, 11% either receive or send tweets and 51% visit Facebook every day.

Posts, blogs and text messages have replaced older means of communications like letters or phone calls. It is not uncommon to see people forgetting to switch off lights or eating dinner without even tasting as they are busy texting, tweeting or updating their status. Millions of users remain glued to their computer or mobile screens for hours to make their presence felt in the online world, but they forget to notice someone standing right next to them. It seems like while people are increasingly connecting with their friends at different levels, their ability to have a real face to face communication is suffering a blow.

Is it ironic that social networks can make us antisocial?

The basic concept of these social networking sites was to bring people together on a single platform where they can communicate with each other. This opportunity immediately got the attention of internet users who wanted to connect with their friends and family members. However, as this trend popularized, instead of connecting with existing friends, we started using it to make new friends. Somehow it seems easier to sit behind a screen and have a conversation than going for a face to face discussion. In the hurry of sharing their special moments, they actually forget to live and cherish those moments. This is ironic, but seems true that social networking sites are actually making people antisocial.

In America, 52% and 37% social media users feel that they can connect better with their friends and families respectively using social networks, while those saying that it hurts their relationships with friends and families were only 4% and 2%. People come to these sites to boost their moral, and make new friends, but end up becoming addicted. The level of addiction according to Mashable is so high that 10% users keep on texting or tweeting while having sex. Not only this, even while having a night out or evening party with friends, an individual spends an average of 48% handling their social networks or checking emails. This comes at a cost of ignoring our friends and spending precious time networking that should have been otherwise utilized to connect with friend face to face.

Side Effects of social networking sites

Social networks come with their own share of side effects. Your private life is exposed to threats, you can get addicted and there are other threats. You might have heard of or even seen the video footage of a woman from Pennsylvania who accidentally fell into a fountain outside a mall, as she was engrossed in texting. Similar incidents keep on happening all around us, where people specially youngsters are so immersed in their social life that they do not see where they are going and are caught into accidents.

Modern generation is lacking in social skills and basic behavioral knowledge, as they are busy connecting on Facebook and twitter. This is not a healthy sign as it affects their personality in a negative way. There is an urgency in youngsters to share every single fact of their personal life on social media. This makes us wonder, “Were we ready for this? Or Did social media came too soon? Or Are we using this platform wisely? The fact is, we would have been never ready, it came at the right time, but we need to learn to use it wisely.

Advancement in technology has given us various platforms for expressing ourselves, but it indeed is becoming an obsession, killing the social and psychological behavioral skills. While you should use these social networks to remain connected, it would be wise to get off from your system, switch off your mobile and have some real conversation. We cannot deny that these online platforms have various advantages, but it is also important to develop our own skills and stop relying on them completely.

A camcorder is a versatile means for you to be what you want to be. By that I mean you can be a documenter of events, be they family christenings, weddings, holidays, parties, or sporting/music events. You can also unleash your creative side. You don’t have to wait for something to happen, you can make it happen for you.

A simple idea, maybe a friend, a script idea and hey presto you have a mini-movie in the making. Add in editing and music and you’ve got something which says a lot more about you than a boring panning shot of the crowded beach at Tenerife, or Beyoncé, jogging around in your extreme zoom from the back row of the O2.

But this article is about what to do with your individual creation. By all means, show friends and family, but why not share it with complete strangers? You’re likely to get some tender love from connoisseurs of internet videos, but you’ll also get a lot of thanks and admiration. You also begin making a name for yourself. Don’t be a shrinking violet- share your work on YouTube. How?

Well, at the risk of complicating things it depends on what camcorder you have. The best ways are different for the bigger HD “semi-professional” camcorders and the pocket camcorders. This article focuses on the pocket camcorders. Just because it’s smaller and cheaper than its big cousin doesn’t mean you can’t upload a mean video and stand the same chance of hitting the “viral” nerve! Take a look at the infamous “Fenton” video of the bad dog chasing deer in Richmond Park London. That went viral and was not shot on an HD Camcorder.

It may seem obvious but most pocket camcorders will not record videos of the same quality as their larger HD cousins. That said they are normally better quality than recording video on your smartphone. I think a pocket camcorder is the way to go- not as expensive as an HD camcorder, yet versatile and able to shoot videos of good quality. Most come with a built in USB connectors which allow you to connect the camcorder directly to a computer. They also normally come with a USB cable. Again, almost all pocket camcorders come with software and this is usually detected and loaded in to your computer as soon as you connect it to your PC for the first time.

Do you have an existing YouTube account? Your pocket camcorder may let you upload movies directly to this account rather than transfer to your PC and then upload to YouTube. Personally I like to transfer to PC first where I have some editing software that I can use to make sure the video is just how I want it. In many cases, the pocket camcorder software will allow you to upload your videos in the highest resolution, but if not, save the video, and then upload from your computer via your YouTube account.

But remember that the final product as it appears on YouTube will be limited by what account you have and the end resolution that YouTube puts out your video at. But that’s not really a problem. If viewers really like your video they will ask you to send them a better quality version. I’ve done this a few times. Just make sure you’re going to have it credited to you. There is some plagiarism and piracy on the internet! But the bottom line is if you’ve got it, flaunt it! Don’t hide your light under a bushel. Get out there and get noticed. It’s a great feeling when you get positive feedback from YouTube viewers!
